Getting here
From Sousse, Hammamet or Monastir to the Sahara
The coastal resorts are a long way from the dunes. Here are the real distances and how to plan the trip.
Distance and driving time
| From | Road distance to the camp | Driving time without stops |
|---|---|---|
| Monastir | 444 km | 6 h 05 |
| Sousse | 447 km | 5 h 55 |
| Hammamet | 525 km | 6 h 50 |
| Tunis | 581 km | 7 h 30 |
Distances and times come from OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM) and are rounded. Real driving times are longer with stops, checkpoints and slower desert roads.
Plan at least one night
With six to seven hours of driving each way, a return trip in one day is not realistic. Most travellers either drive down and stay one or two nights, or join an organised tour from their hotel.
If you drive, check in from 15:00 and check out by 11:00. A regular car can reach the camp.

Driving yourself or joining a tour
Driving gives you full control of the route and timing; a tour takes care of transport. See booking direct or via an agency to compare.
